If Grandpa Saw The World Today

This is just a re-post of the original post “If Grandpa Saw The World Today”. I reconstructed it into a poem 🙂

IF GRANDPA SAW THE WORLD TODAY

If Grandpa saw the world today, he’d probably have a heart attack,
Added to his list of problems, including the pain in his back.

He said children were a gift from God, to be cherished and loved.
I wonder what he’d say if he heard
That in China, second children mustn’t be had
‘Overpopulation’ to him, is a new word.

He told us many stories of all the trees he used to climb when he was young.
Now if he’d go there he’d see no trees, only buildings newly sprung

He told us of how they used to sing and dance on the roads in the first rain
I tried that last year, tripped over a pothole, and then had to nurse a sprain.

I remember Grandpa’s proud, toothless smile
He wasn’t shy- he always smiled, showed it off
My neighbour’s Grandpa now wears dentures
So that no one at his toothlessness will scoff.

Grandpa and Grandma were together for fifty years, until she died.
Yesterday Sis broke up with boyfriend number eight, and a thousand rivers cried.

If I wore a sleeveless shirt, Grandma would always lecture me to change.
I wonder what she’d  say if she saw Miley and her clothing range.

He didn’t like expletives, he smacked me once because I’d yelled out “Shit!”
Imagine Grandpa listening to Eminem rap, and all these songs which are hits.

If Grandpa saw the world today, he’d definitely have a heart attack,
Added to his list of problems, including the pain in his back.
